Hi, my name is Eliesha. I am excited to meet you and share the practice of yoga with you. I began my journey with yoga 17 years ago in Portland Oregon, first as a student, and then as a teacher trainee. I began as many do, in a gym setting. I went to yoga classes after a workout to stretch and cool down. After a class I felt so good, and so I kept going. A year or so later I realized that I wanted to know more about why this practice affected my well being so profoundly. I started going to yoga studios all over Portland to find my Kula and deepen my physical and spiritual practice. Eventually I did at Yoga Union Community Wellness Center, where I received my 200Hr TT in Alignment Based Yoga. My teachers at the time were studying Anusara Hatha Yoga, and so I was also able to study the principals of alignment and heart centered theming associated with Anusara, which I feel deeply impacted my practice and teaching. Practicing and learning with this community was healing on so many levels. I had suffered neck and shoulder pain for years, and through practicing proper alignment and progressive strengthening I was relieved of this chronic pain and tension. Yoga, for me, became a moving meditation, prayer in action. I was learning to really listen to my body, mind, and spirit and follow intuition through the practice of yoga. I was remembering myself – my divine spark – my connection to all. I was reminded of my connection to Divine Love – Universal Love. This is the yoga.
I practice and teach Alignment Based Yoga, a style of yoga that I feel is transformative, healing, and teaches alignment of the body through using balanced action with your muscles in all ranges of motion to promote safe and sure progress. My experience as an Occupational Therapist augments my practice and teaching of therapeutic yoga for all levels of practitioners.
The teachings and practice of yoga have literally impacted every aspect of my life for the better. My teachers and studies continuously encourage me to try new things, challenge my own self imposed limitations, be kind to myself, patient with others, and trust the process of life as it unfolds. I have been teaching yoga and running yoga retreats in Colombia for 7 years, both in English and Spanish. My classes are offerings from my own practice, infused with the knowledge I have gained from my teachers, studies and experiences. Yoga is truly a life long practice on and off the mat, and I look forward to walking the path with you.
My mission is to share the practice of yoga with anyone who comes to the mat with an open heart and willingness to learn. As a teacher, I am also a student, and each class is an opportunity to learn more about my own practice as I share yoga. I also strive to share my beautiful home, Colombia, through my offerings. Truly, my mission is to share the life enhancing practice of yoga, and in doing so, offer a safe place to grow, learn and be reminded of the beauty within. Namaste love.
Through the practice of yoga, we cultivate an ability to attend to the present moment. In this way we become more aware of and grateful for our many gifts and blessings.
Through yoga we practice mindful placement of the body in asana. We practice mindful placement of the thoughts in the mind. We practice mindfulness of the connectedness we share. We practice mindfulness in our words and actions.
Through yoga we practice self love, self acceptance, and self nurturing. When we practice these things, we prepare ourselves to love others more fully and completely, and therefore bring more love into the world. Namaste.
